European Commission publishes a new report on research and innovation dynamics and the role of digitalisation.

European Commission has released a new report on the EU's Science, Research and Innovation Performance. It analyses research and innovation dynamics and highlights the need for strong R&I, "to support sustainable and inclusive growth of companies, regions and countries, making sure that no one is left behind in the quest for strengthening innovation systems, especially in less-developed regions", they explain from Commission.

It should be underlined the attention to the new technological revolutions and the right digital skills that citizens need to ensure the reinforce of companies' productivity. The report also emphasizes that digitalisation is transforming R&I. In reference to this direct relation, "Horizon Europe, the EU's next research and innovation framework programme, will be a key part in stepping up and steering R&I efforts, through its mission-oriented approach and European partnerships", they add from Commission. According to the experts, researchers' digital skills and deep-tech abilities should be fostered. 

“Research and innovation is at the core of the response to the unprecedented crisis we are facing and can significantly contribute to the economic recovery. The 2020 Science, Research and Innovation Performance report shows how research and innovation are central to bring about the ecological and digital transitions Europe needs. Horizon 2020 and the future Horizon Europe programme play a crucial role in this transformation”, stated Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth.
