Leitrim County Council (Ireland) shares the story of SECURE and how the international cooperation has facilitated successful results.
26 May 2020 - ERNACT  project
Many of the projects funded by the Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme 2014-2020 are already completed or coming to a close, ERNACT led SECURE project among them. At this point, the Joint Secretariat has started sharing what these years of cooperation have brought to the regions who have been participating in the NPA projects.

In ERNACT, we are delighted that our SECURE project has been selected between the featured ones in Ireland for a new series called 'Maps of results - Discover the achievements of the NPA projects'! Our project partner Nollaig Whyte, who was working with Leitrim County Council, got the opportunity to tell the story of SECURE and the impact that this project had in her community.

"In January 2019 a team of experts delivered an impact evaluation report of the Northern Periphery and Arctic programme 2014-2020. The aim of the report was to assess the contribution of the projects to the objectives of the programme", they explain in the NPA website. The evaluators’ combined desk work with case studies, interviews with projects and evaluations. As a result, they have developed a collection of results from some of the funded projects that have made a difference in the Northern Periphery and Arctic regions, cities and communities!

SECURE was an interregional project to foster energy-secure communities through the promotion of energy efficiency solutions. The main objective of the partners from Canada, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Faroe Islands, Sweden and Finland was to use transnational cooperation to transfer and implement innovative energy solutions for improving energy efficiency and renewable sources in public housing, lighting and public buildings. Stakeholders, together with the partnership, studied effective use and implementation of digital transformation to promote good practice approaches and increase use of energy efficiency.

After the SECURE project finished, a new partnership (led by ERNACT) is working to continue increasing the use of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions in housing and public infrastructures in remote, sparsely populated areas: discover the SMARCTIC project!
