06 September 2019 - TIDE  project
Donegal County Council, Donegal Tourism and Atlantic Area funded CAPITEN project (Atlantic Cluster for Technological and Economic Innovation in the Nautical Sector) organised Donegal Marine Tourism Conference on the 5th and 6th of September, in Inishowen Peninsula (Ireland). ERNACT, TIDE lead partner, got the opportunity to exhibit this project about developing historical maritime tourism to an audience of more than 100 people.

'Connecting our coastline, a transnational approach to sustainable marine and coastal tourism' was the theme selected for the crowded seminar conducted by representatives from Donegal County Council.

Among the speakers, Peter Grogan, from the Irish digital creative agency Emagine, talked about new technologies in tourism. He mentioned that virtual reality proves an opportunity too attractive to ignore. Talking about new digital technologies, virtual reality experiences and virtual tourism, he mentioned four challenges that regions face: there is the opinion that it impacts on local tourism industry, nothing is better than reality, there are some tech barriers and the lack of unique experiences. Regarding opportunities that this kind of tourism brings, he highlighted the choice of destinations, sustainability, historical recreations and access to remote areas.
