The World Creativity and Innovation Day (WCID) had its first official celebration on April 21 of 2018. The United Nations announced this day to encourage people to use creativity multidisciplinary thinking to solve different issues related to the sustainable development.

Creativity and innovation are becoming the main key of wealth of nations in the 21st century. For this reason, WCI Day provides an excuse to try to solve several problems in different ways. According to this, as Colm Mc Colgan stated, “working collaboratively in a European-wide network positions ERNACT regions and cities to identify and respond to rapidly evolving innovation trends... smart cities, open public services and use of digital technology in the low-carbon economy”.

This day also highlights the importance of the creative economy, which is a highly transformative sector of the world economy. Within the economy, the culture is also an essential element of sustainable development and represents a mix between identity, innovation and creativity for individuals and communities. That sense of community is also present in ERNACT Network by connecting development across cities and regions.

WCID provides the opportunity to consider and modify ideas before going into them and to appreciate different perspectives from ones we have already used. It also allows people to learn from new experiences and connect with new people from different cultures. Last, but not least, this day looks to create new combinations to meet the 2030 Global Goals.
