Second Call of WiFi4EU voucher initiative has been announced

The WiFi4EU initiative aims to provide high-quality Internet access across the EU citizens through free of charge WiFi hotpots in public spaces.

The date of the second call of the WiFi4EU initiative has been announced for tomorrow, 4th April 2019. With a call budget of EUR 51 million, the Commission will distribute 3,400 vouchers across European municipalities on a first come in order of arrival.

In this new call a minimum of 15 vouchers per country will be awarded. Furthermore, the number of vouchers per country may not exceed 15% of the call budget. 

The initiative is open to public sector bodies from the EU Member States and participating EEA countries (Norway and Iceland). To apply for the 15,000 voucher, municipalities need to register on the WiFi4EU Portal before the call. Moreover, WiFi installation companies are encouraged to participate in the WiFi4EU initiative. 

The first WiFi4EU call took place in November 2018 and was very successful, with over 13,000 applying municipalities all across Europe and 2,800 vouchers awarded. According to the interest in the initiative, the maximum number of vouchers per participant State has been raised from 8% to 15%. 

Please note that the Call will be open until 17:00 CEST on 05 April 2019.
