March 8 shows women’s efforts over the years to achieve justice and equality opportunities for themselves.

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to call for change and to celebrate all the women’s achievements throughout history. This day was originated from the trade union movement in America in the early 20th century and by 1911 it had become international.

Although there are still those who deny the need for this day, the reasons why it still needs to be celebrated are evident. There are plenty of ways to support this date, but all of them have the same purpose, which is raising awareness about the struggles of women all over the world. With the objective of visualizing it, some companies decide to create European competitions in order to promote women’s role in the workplace.

One of these initiatives is “Women in Seafood”, a video competition focused on recording women working in this industry with the objective of making their work visible and to promote young female professionals. This proposal highlights the importance of women in this industry, due to the fact that one in two workers is a woman. For more information visit the Women in Seafood website.
