San Sebastian to host European Smart Projects Summit

The event will review economic, competitiveness, social, environmental and growth key challenges for Smart and Sustainable cities.

Fomento San Sebastian
, a Core ERNACT Region, will hots the European Smart Projects Summit on the 26th and 27th of March in the city of San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain).

During the first day, the conference will take place in the Kursaal Congress Center where Mr. Ernesto Gasco, Deputy Major and Delegated Councilor for Economic Impulse, Commerce, Hospitality and Tourism from San Sebastian City Council, will welcome the attendees. Afterwards, Mr. Georg Houben and Mr. Jens Bartholmes, European Commission Policy Officers, will share European Commission's insights about Smart Cities. To finish with the session, Mr. Euken Sesé, Manager from Fomento San Sebastian, will speak about Donostia / San Sebastian as a Smart City.

In addition, it will be a plenary session and different experts will share their experience and vision about the future of the Smart Cities. During the afternoon, there will be some parallel sessions in which experts will discuss about how to fund the scalability of smart solutions, the energy transition, key questions in Policy, Economy and Society, transformation of districts on sustainable and smart buildings, transformation of the urban mobility model into a sustainable model, data security and governance for citizen services and citizens on the core of city transformation.

Study visits
On Wednesday, Fomento San Sebastian will organise some study visits to learn more about good practices to achieve a Smart City. These visits will show the smart implementations on the Urumea Riverside District, a smart and sustainable district in San Sebastian lighthouse city. This visit will be an excellence opportunity to share knowledge and experiences with different city experts from the areas of energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and ICTs/Infrastructures of Replicate project

The Urumea Riverside District is composed by a residential, industrial and a green area and will be reached by electric buses that connect the city center with this smart district. These e-buses represent one of the most demanding and challenging experiences nowadays.
Participants will also visit the industrial park Polígono 27, an example of smart ICT and infrastructures deployment, which has a unique sustainable building Enertic where experiences on smart implementations, difficulties, challenges and results will be shared.
