The European Maritime Day (EMD) is an annual EU meeting point celebrated every year since 2008 as an initiative of the European Union. The main objective is to raise the awareness among citizens about the importance of the sea in their daily lives.

This year the event will take place in the Lisbon Congress Centre (Portugal). The conference will take place on 16-17 May 2019 with a central focus based on maritime affairs and blue growth. It’s not only centred on the research and innovation for a plastic-free ocean, but also focuses the attention on blue entrepreneurship, innovation and investment to transform traditional maritime sectors and boost emerging technologies and value chains.

This day is also celebrated across Europe, through “EDM in my Country” with a series of conferences and interactive activities to know the value of the sea for the economy and the environment. The particular approach focuses on mobilising citizens and young people around this topic to concern about the responsible and sustainable use of oceans.

The EDM is a great opportunity for the stakeholders to make new contacts and strategic partners, show the projects, activities and achievements, share knowledge about the evolution of EU policy and funding landscape, and provide input into European Maritime Policy formulation.
