18 February 2026 - MINDSET  project
The session was facilitated by representatives from Örnsköldsvik Municipality and Umeå University, in collaboration within the MINDSET project.

💡 The central question explored was:
How can mission-oriented innovation provide concrete support in addressing skills supply challenges at local level?
Mission-oriented innovation is about mobilising resources, actors and ideas to address complex societal challenges. It involves:

• Setting a clear, ambitious and measurable goal
 • Creating collaboration between public sector, industry, academia and civil society
 • Driving systemic change rather than implementing isolated projects

A mission is not a project. It is a direction that inspires action, experimentation and learning.

While the mission-oriented approach is mainly applied at national and European level, MINDSET explores how this methodology can be adapted and operationalised at local and regional levels.

Skills supply is a particularly complex challenge – involving multiple perspectives, needs, ongoing initiatives and interdependencies.

During the workshop, participants tested the formulation of a potential mission and explored how a mission-driven approach could strengthen strategic direction and mobilisation around major societal challenges in Örnsköldsvik.

The session generated strong engagement and valuable insights.
The work continues.
