Data2Sustain webinar explored the potential and ethical considerations of Artificial Intelligence in the public sector
01 July 2024 - Data2Sustain  project
On June 27th, ERNACT hosted the Data2Sustain "Artificial Intelligence in the Public Sector" Webinar, where over 70 regional and local authorities, universities, and organisations from different EU countries joined to explore the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the public sector.

Here are the key highlights:
  • Mike Conroy, Data2Sustain Programme Director, gave an overview of the data and innovation services which can be provided to public and private organisations through Data2Sustain.
  • Dr. Margaret Quinn, ERNACT's programme manager, discussed "Harnessing AI for Good: AI’s Potential in the Public Sector," highlighting the Interreg Europe-funded ENAIBLER project approach. ENAIBLER aims to enable regional and local governments to lead AI-driven policies supporting the digital transformation of their territories.
  • Aoife D'Arcy, CEO of Krisolis, a leading training company in Ireland, explained what AI is, opportunities for AI, and how we can apply it in our organisations or the public service. She focused on generative AI in "Gen AI: What’s All the Hype About?"
  • Ulf Hedestig, Senior Lecturer at Umeå University, representing Digital Impact North, Northern Sweden's gateway to the European innovation network for digital and green transformation, talked about the ethical considerations of Artificial Intelligence in "AI and Ethics." He emphasized that the next steps will be crucial to adapting existing legislation to the New Legislative Framework (NLF) to create shared key definitions, procedures, and structures.
Thanks to all our speakers for the fantastic presentations!
