A new project approved for digitalising public decision-making
< Go Back
The CIVITEC project aims to improve policies for making democracy more participatory, inclusive and responsive using new and emerging ICTs, tools and processes.
21 December 2023
-
ERNACT
project
The ERNACT network is delighted to announce the approval of another new digital transformation project with the
Interreg Europe
programme,
CIVITEC
, or
'Citizen and civic inclusion and the digital transformation of public decision-making processes'
.
The project, with a total budget of €2,020,864.00, is led by
Nicosia Development Agency
in Cyprus to explore the use of civic technology, how the 'Civic Tech' is improving civic engagement and public participation in decision making processes from local to national levels and the development and delivery of new co-created strategies and policies. This process implies numerous changes in the relationships between the citizens and public institutions, by reinvigorating democratic processes and encouraging citizens to actively participate in various forms of democratic engagement. In that way, Civic Tech encompasses new and emerging ICTs, tools and processes that enable greater citizen and community participation in a free and democratic society. For example, online petitions, open data portals, citizen evaluation and monitoring platforms, and participatory budgeting systems, where citizens collectively discuss community needs and priorities and then allocate public funds accordingly.
"The CIVITEC project aims to improve policies for making democracy more participatory, inclusive and responsive using new and emerging ICTs, tools and processes"
, mentions ERNACT General Manager
Dr Caitriona Strain
. The ERNACT network and our core members Digital Nièvre Joint Authority (France) and Donegal County Council (Ireland) participate in the project together with Viimsi Municipality Government (Estonia), Municipality of Preveza and Computer Technology Institute and Press Diophantus (Greece), Jaén County Council (Spain), Development Agency Sinergija (Slovenia), Nièvre County Council (France) and Business Agency Association (Bulgaria).
CIVITEC hasn't been the only ERNACT project approved recently. During the last week, our network achieved two other digital transformation projects with the North West Europe and Northern Periphery and Arctic Programmes, 'E6' and 'MINDSET'. Read more!
