The app will help students to easily find the different rooms and places either to do some activity or just find their way
28 September 2022 - PUBLIC-LINK  project
ERNACT led project The Public Link, or TPL, funded by DG CNECT - The Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology of the European Commission is exploring the use of disruptive technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR)/Augmented Reality (AR) and Machine Learning tools to get closer and more present to the citizen.

The project commenced with a series of online workshops to test digital tools that can support the co-creation process. They served to The Public Link partners to experience and test different virtual collaboration platforms to co-create public services engaging with citizens through innovative and collaborative ways.

Based on them, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of University of Ljubljana is working on a mobile app with AR and VR for freshmen students, international students, summer school students and other visitors at their facilities to create an app that helps new visitors to easily navigate inside the building and the most important rooms and corridors at the faculty. The app will help them to easily find the different rooms and places either to do some activity or just find their way.

The pilot will develop a multimedia product, the solution that will include AR technologies and it will motivate users with imaginative gamified elements. The development of the solution will be based on the cooperation of various stakeholders, from representatives of the university, student offices, AR companies to users (students) and the solution will be available on the TPL platform.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of University of Ljubljana expects that the faculty representatives will see the virtual guide as a guide around the building for visitors, new students and new employees. But also, this will be an opportunity to promote among youth the use of new technologies with gaming extras on secondary school students that are attending summer schools and it could have a positive effect on enrolment at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

Moreover, on the 1st of October, Dr. Jože Guna associate professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana will participate at a discussion panel at the World Future Verse Conference (WFV conference) on "Opportunities for Education - Could We Learn Better and Faster with Virtual and Augmented Realities?" and he will present The Public Link project. The event will give the attendees insights and the future trends of the Metaverse.
