Network partners create opportunities for the ERNACT regions and cities to renew their cooperation post COVID.
30 May 2022 - ERNACT  project
The ERNACT International Management Committee (IMC) members, core partners of the network, have met in-person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The meeting has taken place in Santander, in the region of Cantabria (Spain), on the 24th and 25th of May, kindly hosted by Cantabrian Government.

The meeting has brough the opportunity for ERNACT members to renew personal and institutional relationships as a basis for improved cooperation as the new EU programmes kick into life. One of the main objectives of the IMC meeting has been to r
e-establish connections between ERNACT members via networking opportunities and to formally meet and welcome Nièvre Numérique to the network, representing the region of Nièvre in France, the newest partner joining the team. IMC members also got the chance to assess the status of new proposals being developed for the new EU programming period 2021 - 2027 and review communications and finance.

At the same time, ERNACT IMC members have taken the opportunity to get to know the facilities of the Science and Technology Park and have visited the Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology of Cantabria (IBBTEC), where the generation of new knowledge in biomedicine and biotechnology is promoted, and the Institute of Environmental Hydraulics of the University of Cantabria (IH Cantabria), dedicated to supplying innovative solutions based on scientific excellence.

The General Director of Innovation, Jorge Muyo, has been the Cantabrian representative who has presented some of the most relevant actions of the Regions in Industrial Transition project, of which Cantabria is a member as the only representative region of Spain, as well as of the Specialization Strategy of Cantabria 2021-2027 that the Cantabrian Government is finalizing and that is expected to be approved in the coming weeks.

After the visit, ERNACT General Manager Colm McColgan highlighted the collaboration between the Government of Cantabria, the University and the digital transformation companies that are in the Park. "Cantabria is an example to follow", he said, adding that "with this visit we have been able to learn about the benefits and various good practices that arise from cooperation between the regional government, universities and leading companies in the Park".

In all, four online meetings were held during the period of the pandemic, allowing the operation of the network to progress and planning for the EU programming period 2021- 2027 to continue.
