Regional authorities developed emergency measures to support their seafood sector

COVID-19 has affected the Atlantic regions and their fisheries and aquaculture sector but more generally, this pandemic situation has also affected all seafood value chain, with the decrease of the tourism activities and the closure of the restaurants, the demand of the seafood sector has really decrease as well.

Elise Wattrelot, Executive Secretary of the CPMR Atlantic Arc Commission stated that “The crisis has shown the need of innovative solutions but also for cooperation in the seafood sector in the Atlantic. The Atlantic is strong to many projects to enable the sustainable growth of the seafood sector”. 

Regarding to this, CPMR Atlantic Arc Commission within the SAFER project developed a Catalogue of Services that presents the outcomes of collaborative work carried out by SAFER project partners, showcasing the results of 5 SAFER pilots and a mapping of 80 innovative best practices in the seafood sector across the Atlantic Area.

She says that “SAFER project experience is really interesting for enterprises wishing to be more resilient to surprise situations. With SAFER pilot actions we enabled enterprises in the Atlantic to enhance the use of technology”.
