27 May 2021 - ERNACT  project
The ERNACT network is delighted to announce that it will participate for a second year in the biggest annual Brussels-based event dedicated to cohesion policy, the European Week of the Regions and Cities, which 19th edition will virtually take place from 11 to 14 October 2021. The ERNACT workshop 'Digital transformation technologies and the future of cooperation between European regions and cities' will take place on the 12th of October, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM CET.

The ‘EU Regions Week’ has become a unique communication, learning and networking platform that brings together regions and cities from all over Europe, including decision makers, politicians, administrators, experts and academics. In that way, ERNACT will participate and contribute through a workshop entitled ‘Digital transformation technologies: The future of cooperation between European regions and cities’.

This year ERNACT is celebrating its 30th anniversary after the network was originated in 1991 as a EU project approved in DG Regio’s first interregional cooperation programme. After three decades of experience, ERNACT has the capacity to envisage the future and, by participating in the EU Regions Week, the network will explore how digital transformation tech, such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), can be used to improve the territorial cooperation process, including partnership formation, methodologies for study visits, best practice and EU projects coordination. “Territorial cooperation projects can adopt digital technologies to improve the effectiveness of interregional learning, good practice transfer and integration into mainstream ERDF policy instruments”; states Colm Mc Colgan, ERNACT General Manager.

The ERNACT workshop will be of a highly interactive nature through the use of a variety of digital tools. “The main innovation elements will be the application of VR and AI to common interregional cooperation project processes”, adds Colm. The session will combine a mix of digital visual, audio, learning and interactive services to provide the attendees with a stimulating and highly interactive experience. The workshop will include a demonstration of use of artificial intelligence to improve interregional cooperation outcomes; participation in a Virtual Reality enabled study visit; use of an online learning platform to evaluate a good practice; use of video, audience polling tools and animated graphics.

Despite de COVID-19 pandemic, the 'EU Regions Week' has become a relevant platform for discussing and sharing ideas on the development of EU cohesion policy, to raise awareness on practical proposals for EU-policy making amongst decision-makers. This virtual event brings the opportunity to showcase the capacity of European cities and regions to create growth and jobs and to prove the importance of the local and regional level for a good European governance.
