Saverio Romeo | Lead Expert for Derry ICC
After a successful launch event in January and a productive strategy workshop in February with the involvement of the Derry/Londonderry community involved in upskilling and reskilling, the Derry/Londonderry Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) Team participated in another important event. During the third week of February, the 100 and more cities involved in the ICC project met up in a four-day event to share best practices, to learn about each other, to use ICC tools available to cities, and to connect with cities with similar issues.
Derry/Londonderry was a protagonist of the event. The team was actively involved in the debate on reskilling and upskilling, clearly influencing the specific working group on the matter and creatively suggesting actions that can bring together cities that have focus on skills. That role will become more evident as the cross-cities collaboration on skills will evolve. But that was not the end of it. The ICC project provides some tools for cities and the Derry/Londonderry team has shown how they can be used successfully.

Marketplace Service
In the marketplace, cities can illustrate specific projects to the entire ICC community. The “Smart Mobile Pedestrian Counters for Event”, developed and deployed in Derry/Londonderry, was praised as a best practice in mobility and as an example on how to use the Marketplace.
See above the screenshot of the solution in the marketplace.
The Marketplace is a good opportunity for city stakeholders to show their projects and their impact. It is a visibility platform with an audience of 100 EU cities plus many others all over the world such as Busan, Casablanca, Medellin, and others. The Derry/Londonderry ICC Team wants to make good use of this opportunity. Therefore, we invite SMEs, public organisations, NGOs, community groups to use this source for catching attention on successful projects that had an impact for the city.
ICC Training opportunity
The ICC will also provide training in areas of relevancy for cities. The first area will be open data. There will be all several training sessions from April 2021 until November 2022. Some of them will be open to the public. Some other sessions will be dedicated to the city teams. We want to make the most of this opportunity. Therefore, we invite organisations of any sort to get in touch with the ICC Team to explore further this opportunity.
