The Hymany Way smartphone app has been developed for both iPhone and Android smart phone users. The project encompassed all aspects of the Hymany way walking and cycling routes including:
  • - Points of interest
  • - Image galleries
  • - Information on the area and surrounding attractions
  • - Voiceover guides

The Mobile Tourism app will enable users plan their cycling and walking routes along the West Regional Authority designated routes in East Galway.

This app will give directions to the points of interest along the routes from the user’s current position using GPS location technology utilized by the app.  In addition, users will be able to access photos and text information concerning the various points of interest. Users’ will be encouraged to ‘share’ the app with their friends on social networking sites such as Facebook- utilizing the in-built marketing features of the Mobile Tourism App.

A fundamental part of the design project was to ensure another region that wanted to make use of the underlying technology could do so. For this reason, the architecture of the app has been built to easily allow re-purposing of the technology for another route. Route information including GPS co-ordinates, points of interest, audio guides and image galleries have been designed to allow updates and changes to be made as efficiently as possible. As part of the original design and development project phases, the app was build using a modular approach meaning all route specific aspects of the technology are independent and do not require redeveloping the technology to repurpose the app.
