As a GP, The Wireless City project developed by Derry City Council (Northern Ireland) is very close to the needs of Burgas’ citizens, business and local government. It meets the requirements of community and tourists for internet access, actual information and better administrative services, the requirements of business for flexible access to information and speeding up their licences approval process and the needs of local government for improving the communications infrastructure between the offices, reducing costs for phone calls, reducing crime, parking control and in general creating better living and business conditions using modern technology.

The GP is based upon the exploitation of the rapidly maturing wireless/mobile networking sector and end-user access device technologies and designed around the affordable unlicensed Wi-Fi networking standard. It corresponds to the increasing number of wireless device users.

The practice allows a relatively easy technological transfer and implementation due to the fact that both cities are administrative, tourist and university centers.

The chosen GP is effective for the municipality due to the possibility to separate implementation in two sub-projects: one for the local government and one for visitors and citizens (as it happened with the original GP implementation in Derry– Wireless Council and Wireless Walls).
