Our partner has developed a strategy to ensure that SMEs and citizens can benefit from a good broadband service. Derry City and Strabane District Council (Northern Ireland) explains that super connectivity helps to increase productivity and competitiveness, improve access to information and facilitation of innovation, creation of platforms for business-to-business collaboration, improve access to markets and opportunities worldwide, provide opportunities for businesses to become producers of ultrafast-enabled content and applications, increase flexible working and reducing business travel and commuting and improve access to education and training.

About the broadband scheme
To-date, more than 230 small and medium (SMEs) businesses in Derry and Strabane have benefitted from the Super Connected Cities Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme. This initiative helps SMEs get connected to superfast broadband that has been rolled out by Derry City and Strabane District Council in conjunction with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

According to Business Opportunities Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Louise Breslin, “We have seen a fantastic response to the Voucher Scheme, and we’re getting some extremely positive feedback from clients who have signed up. I know there is going to be huge demand for the additional funding, so I would really urge local companies to get their applications in as soon as possible.” This scheme allows all type of businesses to apply for grants of up to £3,000 each to cover the costs of installing faster and better broadband.

Please note that the connection vouchers scheme is now closed to new applicants.
